Intensive Language Training
In-Class (Washington, D.C. Area)

Recognizing that many of our clients will be U.S. Government Civilian or Military personnel preparing for an official assignment to Poland, our intensive classroom-based language training is offered in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. On-site training can also be arranged in certain circumstances. We provide intensive language instruction tailored to our clients' needs, anticipating that most goals will be "3, 3, 3" proficiency on the U.S. Government's"Interagency Langauge Roundtable" and Department of State's Foreign Service Institute rating scale. Materials (see section "Training Aids") are the most up-to-date available, most procured from Polish Universities which have great expertise in teaching Polish as a second language.

Field Trips: Intensive classroom training will be enriched with occasional field trips designed to capitalize on classroom training. There are several excellent locations in the Washington D.C. and Baltimore area for experiencing Polish culture and enhancing classroom learning.

Full-time intensive training will consist of daily sessions of between five and eight hours of instruction daily. Instruction periods are 40 minutes each separated by 5 minutes breaks. There is also a lunch break in the middle of the day. All classes are one-on-one unless otherwise requested.

Polish Language Services offers two different Intensive Training programs designed to meet the individual student's requirement:

Survival Polish

This program is focused on teaching the bare essential practical Polish which will allow the student to survive in Poland on a day-to-day basis without the assistance of a translator. Duration of this course can vary in length from 3 to 8 weeks (or more) depending on the student's requirements and time contraints.

After finishing this course, students will be able to introduce themselves and describe (in a very simple way) their families, profession and home country. They will be able to purchase groceries, newspaper and tram/bus tickets at a kiosk, place an order in the restaurant, make a reservation at the hotel, schedule appointments and send mail and packages at the post-office. Students will know how to ask for help & directions and they will know where to call in case of an accident and how to explain an emergency situation.

This program can be well utilized by spouses of government/military & corporate employees whose primary language requirement is the ability to communicate in day-to-day situations.

Polish Language Experience

This program is tailored towards professionals going on a long-term work assignment to Poland and are required to speak near-fluent Polish in both professional and non-professional environments.
